Fancy Nancy Party

(Sorry my camera was having some problems with inside light, so my pictures are fuzzy).

Every week, or at least most weeks, Elly and I study one letter of the week. This last week we learned about F. So what better way to learn about F than to have a Fancy Nancy party. Actually I had been planning on having one for awhile as Elly was bored with the older kids being at school, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity.

During the week, everyday we sing a letter song, read several books about something that starts with that letter, such as frogs, learn a poem, sing a song, and practice writing the letter. During the week we usually do a craft or activity. I follow loosely the program as found on www.letterofweek.com. I have done this program with Talmage and Brynn. It is a fun way for us to spend quality time together reading and learning about the letters. For this reason we have many F activities through our party.

The day started early with me getting the dough ready for cinnamon rolls around 6:00 am. After I got the older kids to school and Matt off to work I started decorating and finishing the FOOD. Fortune smiled on me and Miles fell asleep at 9:00 in the morning. I felt confident I could finish all I needed to now before the party at 11:00. Unfortunately that is when I checked the dough and found it FLAT, as I had FORGOTTEN the yeast. I then woke the baby and made a larger FINANCIAL commitment to the party and bought some cinnamon rolls at the FANCY bakery. After that FIASCO it went much better. At least until half the kids I invited to the party didn't come because of the FLU and one had FORGOT. The numbers were a little sparse, but sometimes less is better.

Here is the FRUIT, FRUIT DIP and breakfast rolls for brunch.
Here we have all the FANCY DECOR. Elly really liked the streamers as did Brynn. The girls kept the theme and set the table for a fancy dinner of Hawaiian haystacks. Brynn did give a manners class for Talmage and Matt. I am not sure they appreciated it as much as she did though. :)
For the rest of the party the girls made FRILLY butterflies, and necklaces for crafts. We then had spa treatment with FRAGRANT LOTION and FINGERNAIL PAINTING. We had a great time, and I think Elly has learned F pretty well while having FUN. Goal accomplished.

Oh Stacey- what fun! And what a fun post. I'm glad you've found a great way to do a little learning and fun with Elly and that you make the effort to have special days now and then. Too bad about the cinnamon rolls though. I've been doing the letter of the day with Miriam and we gather up a whole box of stuff for each letter. It's kind of petered out though. I'll have to check out that site.

Very cute idea! I bet she loved it. I have done that before with important ingrediants.

You are officially Mother of the Year! That is so fun. I loved the idea and I want to copy it. I remember doing a letter of the week with Megan, but I'm pretty sure we fizzled out around "H".

You are such a good mom to teach your kids the way that you do! And so much fun too. You are a great example to me. It's good to hear about websites like that letteroftheweek one, I'm sure they are helpful.
