Elly's colon is clean!

Just as an update for those who were concerned, Elly had a colonoscopy today. She had been passing bloody stools for a few months so, I took her to a GI who gave her a colonoscopy. We thought she had a polyp, which is never cancerous at this age. But her colon was clean, with some irritations near her anus which may have been a polyp that had fallen off on its own a little while ago.

She had a hard time waking up after the procedure. She was screaming for several minutes before they got me. But she calmed down after I got there. They wanted her to eat some slushy or snacks. Elly didn't want anything to do with food then. After about 15 minutes she was coaxed into some ice cream, and it seemed as if she was perking up, so we were able to go home. She was still pretty clingy for a few hours until she threw up all the ice cream she had. Then she was a ravenous beast after being on a clear liquid diet for 24 hours, and fasting most of the day today. Right after she threw up, all she wanted was spaghetti.

I tried not to freak out about the whole thing, and stay pretty calm. But it is nerve racking any time you take your child to the hospital I think. By the end of the day I could just feel myself unwind, and I realized I was a lot more stressed than I thought I was.

Anyhow just a quick update for those who wanted to know.

That sounds stressful. I am very glad she is ok. I have to say, after seeing the title for your post, I expected it to be a story on an explosive situation! I am so happy she is well though, and good for you for being strong!

Glad she's ok! Sounds kind of like when Tabitha had surgery on her thumbs. She woke up screaming and disoriented and it was pretty traumatic. Hopefully Elly will forget all that like Tabitha has since she's so little.

Scary day! And that must have been tough not being able to really feed anything for that long. I'm glad to hear she is okay!
